Alternative Treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis Right at Your Home

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a vaginal infection caused by bacteria. It is sometimes called as “fishy fanny.” The name is actually be derived from BV’s distinct fishy odor. Having this infection can be embarrassing and at the same time makes a woman uncomfortable due to itchiness and irritation within the vaginal area.

Antibiotics are the most commonly prescribed medicines to treat bacterial vaginosis. Antibiotics are effective in treating bacterial infections, but there are known side effects that make women avoid it. Some allergies are also associated with the use of such drugs. Using alternative medicines found at home are as effective as using over-the-counter drugs. Moreover, women need not worry about safety in using alternative medicines since they are all-natural remedies.

Most alternative remedies for bacterial vaginosis are already found in the kitchen, at the backyard, or at your local drugstore. However, proper use must be administered for different home remedies. It is always best to consult a doctor before using any alternative remedies.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is commonly used by people trying to reduce weight. Unknown to many, this vinegar is also effective as an antibacterial solution. It can be drank and applied to the skin directly, but it needs to be diluted in water. In a hot tub, dilute 1 to 3 cups of apple cider vinegar. The water can be used for bathing or as vaginal douche. The solution is very effective in soothing irritation.

Garlic

Many people hate the smell of raw garlic, but it is actually good in treating bacterial infections. Wrapping a clove of garlic with gauze and inserting it inside the vagina provides antibacterial effect. Many women will not agree with inserting a garlic clove in their vagina, but this actually works.

Another alternative is to mix a teaspoon of garlic juice to a few tablespoons of yogurt. The mixture can be used as a daily douche – using it twice a day is recommended. Others soak a tampon in the mixture and insert it in the vagina.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has strong antibacterial properties. It can be rubbed directly around the vaginal area. It can also be used in bathing by adding a few drops of it in a tub. Soaking the body for a few minutes can bring a soothing effect to the infection.

Water

Water is the cheapest alternative remedy for bacterial infections – and also one of the best. Drinking a lot of water can help flush out bacteria in the body. Washing the vagina with water is also a great way of flushing out bacteria. However, always be sure to use clean or purified water to prevent acquiring other disease.
