Bacterial Vaginosis – Alternatively Treat it with Herbal Medicines

A vagina is highly prone to both good and bad bacteria. For this reason, a woman needs to be clean especially with her genitals. Once bad bacteria overruns good bacteria, the vagina will get irritation, itchiness, pain during sex, feels discomfort while urinating, and smelly discharge. These are signs of bacterial vaginosis. These symptoms can be very uncomfortable to any female. Most doctors recommend over-the-counter drugs and topical creams for remedy. Although these drugs may help, some women fear that using such drugs may leave long-term side effects. Fortunately, treating this bacterial infection with herbal products can be very effective.

Medical experts believe that the vagina has its own kind of environment where both good and bad bacteria thrive. Good bacteria combat bad bacteria and other foreign and harmful organisms to avoid infection within the vagina. When bad bacteria proliferate and defeat the good bacteria, bacterial vaginosis follows. The use of herbal medicines as alternative can create an environment within the vagina where bad bacteria will find it difficult to survive. Medical experts stress out that herbal medicines normalize a vagina’s pH and help fight inflammation and irritation.

Vaginitis is said to be caused by bacterial infection or fungal yeast known as Candida Albicans. Treatment of vaginitis will depend mainly on what might have caused it. It is always advised that women undergo diagnostic tests to know what exactly caused the symptoms of vaginitis. Diagnostic examinations will determine the exact type of treatment for the disease. Different types of bacteria need different types of treatment. Doctors recommend that a woman with such infection must avoid foods high in sugar, carbohydrates, and alcohol. Foods containing these can worsen the infection.

In the meantime, certain herbal remedies for bacterial vaginosis can help.

Garlic

Garlic is proven to contain antibacterial properties. During the world war, wounded soldiers applied pounded garlic on their wounds to fight possible infection. However, do not put pounded garlic directly in to the vagina.  In cases of bacterial vaginosis, taking one to two garlic capsules a day can help the vagina fight bacteria.

Tracheal

This herb is used to normalize the flow of bodily fluids including those that help flush toxins and bacteria. Tracheal is used as tea, which is best to drink before bedtime. However, some people do not like the taste of this herb. As an alternative, you can take a 500mg tracheal capsule before bedtime.

Goldenseal

A chemical known as berberine is contained by goldenseal. This chemical is known to boost immunity and is very effective in fighting off bacteria and fungus inside the vagina. However, goldenseal is not recommended for pregnant women since it causes uterine contraction.
